Jackrabbit

This week we visited a design firm called Jack Rabbit. Creative Director and owner Dave Belyea showed us around the studio (set up with all the comforts of home). We met in the kitchen where we all sat around a large table and ate fresh-baked cookies. They talked about the studio’s history and how they have survived as a small business.

Jack Rabbit designs for the Red Sox, Jordan’s furniture, Smirnoff, and created a whole catalog for Bauer. Dave emphasized always following up with contacts even if a company does’t offer you a position—as you never know when something might open up later.

At the end he handed out some very sleek metal business cards made from stamped aluminum.

  1. Jackrabbit was a successful class trip. I like how they are proud of being a small operation and dont give in to becoming a big company. The building Jack Rabbit operates out of is impressive and designed to be a cross between a home and a workplace. This creates a comfortable mood. I admire how the company started off so small and built themselves up and now they have great business connections. Jack Rabbit is a great story of success.

  2. Jackrabbit was my favorite field trip due to how they explained that you don't need to be simply a graphic designer to work their. They pointed out how they needed programmers and etc. I loved how the kitchen was the meeting room and it had a great view of the projector. Also the cookies and business cards were very well done. To top it off, all the people that we met there were very kind to let us into their studio as they were working.

  3. Jackrabbit was by far one of my favorite trips that we have taken. The atmosphere of the place it was extremely comfortable and felt like I was in someones house, I really liked that a lot. Also all the people there that talked to us had so much to say but not just about there company but they gave us very helpful tips on what to do and how to act when entering the design world and trying to get internships and jobs.

  4. I really enjoyed Jackrabbit. Everything that was explained to us was said in terms that we understood. They kept us interested and didn't want to talk about the things we didn't really care for. They got right to the point and even showed some slides on their amazing projector. They gave a lot of real life insight about how to get a job and why you should cherish your internship. All in all, being there really helped alot, was informational and fun.

Congrats to Craig on the internship (no seriously, congrats) =]

  5. Jackrabbit was one of our best trip i think. Not only was it a comfy living style place, but the people there were really friendly and welcoming. I learned a lot about team working at Jackrabbit. WHat i learned was with small businesses is that not ONE person "owns" and "runs" the company everyone puts in there own kind of work to create the company. I enjoyed the slide show they put up on the actual wall not screen to show us different kind of people they have worked with. It also gave me an in sight to how real companies worked. Jackrabbit is a cool place that small but can expand into something huge one day.

    AND congrats Craig!
