Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDs Awareness Posters

On Dec. 2 the VDIG visited MassArt to visit the exhibition “Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDs Awareness Posters 1985-2010.” The exhibition was curated by Elizabeth Resnick, Professor and Chair, Graphic Design at MassArt, and Javier Cortés, Partner and Creative Director of Korn Design Boston + NY.

The students were all asked to choose a poster that “spoke” to them, and engage the class in a dialogue about it.

  1. The AIDs Awareness Posters were one of my favorite things we viewed this year. Not only where they all in different languages they were about something important. They i believe getting a point across the nations about protected sex. Which is very important in the world. One of the favorite posters was the one that was in spanish that said "los condomes trabajan toda la noche" which means the " the condoms will work all night" which is good and true. But also has a sense of humor to it with the picture of the condom being a business man sitting at a desk with a cup of coffee and paperwork. This was a cool fieldtrip because not only did we get to see the work but also got to take a visit to MassArt college.!

  2. I really enjoyed the trip to Mass Art to see the AIDs awareness posters. The posters were such great ways to get the word out about AIDs and safe sex. I liked all the posters but there was one poster that was my favorite and stood out the most. That poster was the one titled Hidden Danger designed by Cedomir Kostovic. This poster is very powerful because at first glance you just see a black background with colorful polka dots but when you look deeper in to the poster it says AIDS in the poster. This poster relates to AIDs because when you look at a person you cant tell if they have AIDs or not it dose not stand out, its hidden just like the text in this poster.
